I first met Walter and Wanda Lawson while his family and mine were attending Friendswood
Friends Church during my seminary training days in the early 1990’s. Being close in age with
Walter, I am aware of his varied careers and experiences, from a military career in the Navy,
and other entrepreneurial ventures since, including numerous administrative vocations with the
city of Houston, TX. Over the years our friendship has grown, even into a coaching relationship
while Walter worked to process his calling in ministry. Most recently Walter had taken the
opportunity to lead and to preach in several local established congregations in the city of
Houston.
Most recently he presented to the leaders of Texas Friends Churches Gulf Coast and myself
with an opportunity to come alongside with his most recent venture, the planting of Come And
See Ministries, which includes a new church plant in the urban community of Texas City, TX.
This vision and the opportunity were completed in the agreement to affiliate the ministry with the Friends movement, and the the purchase of the ministry base and worship center located at
917 8th Ave N., Texas City, TX., 77590. The affiliation process continues under the guidance
and support of the EFC-MAYM Home Ministries team and our hope is to recommend to the
EFC-MAYM Elders, the Come And See Friends Church for full-church status as soon as
possible.
Come and See (CAS Ministries) is a mission based, evangelical, Friends church led by Pastor
Walter Lawson located in the inner city of Texas City, Texas. This ministry provides an
opportunity for everyone to unite in local mission projects and evangelism. CAS leaders pray,
invite, disciple, and offer hospitality to any and all, under the guidance and in the power of the
Holy Spirit, telling the Good News of Jesus Christ by sharing our own testimonies and the Word
of God. CAS is literally a team of pastors, ministry leaders, and youth who serve in our
community to help individuals gain stability in their lives, first by meeting their physical needs,
and then, their emotional and spiritual needs through an ongoing relationship that honors God.
Just like Jesus invited his disciples to Come and See, we should invite those who are already in
our community to Come and See the love and salvation of Jesus everyday.
CAS Ministries serves and ministers in their community in numerous areas. As is noted in their
profile above, they effectively serve any needy persons by serving and sharing meals each
week as they canvas their community, sharing God’s love and their individual testimonies of
Jesus’ love and presence in their lives and their congregation. Other ministries include women,
men’s, youth and music ministries, as well as various Bible teachings and discipleship training
for anyone interested.
Growing in Christ is a 13-week course for new and growing Christians. With the trusted
Navigator studies Lessons on Assurance and Lessons on Christian Living combined into one
practical package, this study is designed to help master the fundamentals of the Christian life.
For individual or group use, these concise studies will help establish a firm scriptural foundation
for life as one develops habits of Bible study and Scripture memory.
Ladies In Fellowship Together is a discipleship group for all women, young and old. They meet
regularly to study the Bible together to gain a closer walk with God while building strong
relationships that LIFT each other up, by encouraging one another and sharing life experiences
that lead to a closer walk with the Lord. LIFT meets every Thursday night.
Please pray for Pastor Walter Lawson, Chaplain Danny Skelton, Outreach Pastsor Ahmad
Feast and all the various leaders of CAS Ministries of Texas City, TX.
